WORKSHOP Description:
Following up with the extraordinary study which we had at Shakti Summer School Greece 2022, we will review the full choreography slowly and carefully as well as practicing in full speed. Please review what you have learned before attending this class.
Śrita Kamala is a beautiful Abhinaya (storytelling through gesture) piece which explores expressive range of the Nava Rasa. This truly epic choreography by Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra brings to life Śrī Jayadeva’s second song of the Gita Govind. Strength and softness are simultaneously developed by learning this important choreographic rendition of the most beloved Vaishnav poetic text. The poem recounts romantic moods of Vishna and Laxmi, pastimes of Krishna battling demons, Sita and Ram and various references to exciting stories and past times.
Śrita-kamalā-kuca-mandala dhrta-kundala e kalita-lalita-vanamāla jaya jaya deva hare
O Deva! O Hari! O You who take shelter of Kamalā Śrī Rādhā’s round breasts, O You whose ears are decorated with earrings and who are garlanded with an enchanting wreath of forest flowers, O Hari, may You triumph!
