WORKSHOP Description:
Principle of Opposites, Signature IFF Techniques & Slow Soulful Phrases
Learn the defining concepts and techniques within this multilayered fusion dance form such as Colleena’s ‘Principle of Opposites’. Distinct movement pathways and oppositional force within the body creates a beautiful S-curve shape accentuating the languid feminine mood of our movement vocabulary which has been inspired by both Indian classical (and folk) dance, as well as Middle Eastern ‘Bellydance’.
Through precise techniques, we achieve a powerful sculpturesque form full of filagree detail and nuanced curves. Yet at the same time the curve suggests a softness and melted state (lasya) further drawn out by the soulful music we use in Indian Fusion dance.
Both days class will be begin with embodied breath practices and a strong warm up, followed by technique breakdowns and drills of Indian Fusion Formation (IFF) Level 1 & 2 movements. Each workshop will develop choreography using creative movements, structured improvisation and IFF moves/phrases.
