Introduction to Odissi Classical Dance

Brand New Beginners Workshop!  A warm welcome to the rich world of Indian classical dance.  Odissi is one of 9 classical dance styles of India and is unique in its curvaceous and flowing postures.  The subtle curves of the upper body are juxtaposed with strong rhythmic footwork in a musical harmony of ‘rhythm and melody’ balancing masculine / feminine principles.

New students of Odissi will experience the powerful energetic alignment in sculpturesque posture or bhangi, explore archetypes and storytelling phrases, develop coordination skills that develop body awareness such as training practices in hand Mudra and Eye movements.

This class will move slowly as we encourage brand new students to join!
