Class Description:

Welcome to the inspiring world of Odissi classical Indian dance.  This introductory course breaks down foundational techniques including basic bhangi (postures), mudra and pada (foot positions).  Odissi dance is embedded in the rich cultural climate of the East Indian state of Orissa and woven into a dance and regional history that stretches back millennia.  We will explore aspects of history and culture through lectures, the dance and the repertoire itself.  All are welcome, however please note that there is a strong footwork component to this dance and some level of fitness is required.

The topics covered include: body conditioning, Introduction level and Level 1 technique training, elements of the choreography: HARI OM, Abhinaya Darpana techniques and some theory.

Join classes live to receive valuable feedback and corrections on traditional training practices as well as new creative content.  This course is intended for students to learn or refresh Level 1 skills and Hari OM choreography. The entire choreography will be presented over 3 months.
