WORKSHOP Description:
Chiftitelli: Preliminary Bellydance Workshop
Chiftitelli is a beautiful rhythm found in Turkey, Greece, the Balkans and in variations throughout the Middle East. It’s lilting character epitomizes the earthy release of the pelvis uniquely found in all styles of Bellydance. In this workshop we will discuss (a little) music theory, then review main preliminary techniques through exploration on a tāxsim (melodic improvisation). Dancers will explore the use of pauses and negative space as we play with a dance composition on the chiftitelli rhythm.
ABOUT INDIAN FUSION FORMATION
Indian Fusion Formation is a training program in Colleena’s unique fusion form. This dance is rich in symbolism and detail, with deep meanings waiting to be unveiled. Stylistically speaking, Indian Fusion movement vocabulary is inspired by cultural dances of India and the Middle East (including its modern evolutions). This dance bridges modern and folkloric Belly Dance vocabulary with extensive postures and spins of North Indian classical and folk dance, intricacies of eyes, hands and facial expression from Eastern Indian classical dance and draws in elements of Central Asian dances as well. Woven seamlessly together, Indian Fusion Dance is both Ancient & Modern – expressing timeless qualities and values.
The PRELIMINARY LEVEL focuses mainly on Fusion movements rooted and inspired by Raqs Sharqi (Bellydance) and Raqs Baladi (Egyptian folkloric dances) as well as their modern elaborations. Join classes live to receive valuable feedback and corrections as well as new creative content. Students will gain proficiency and valuable insights into both the technique and creative process in this elegant fusion form.
