Course Structure:

1 month course (Jan 5 – Feb 5, 2022), includes:

*Pre-recorded classes and practice videos.  New videos added throughout the course!

*Live real-time classes via Zoom (4 hours), plus class recordings

Live Class Schedule:

Live Class Schedule (via Zoom):  Wednesdays, 7-8 pm (Athens time) ~ Jan 5, 12, 19, 26

Study Flow:

Live real-time classes via Zoom (4 hours), plus class recordings.  Please try to practice with the pre-recorded material at least throughout the week.

Progression:

Progression through each level in Odissi takes several months to 1 year of regular practice and depends upon the individual.  Please speak to your teacher to progress to the next level or inquire which level is appropriate for you.

JAN courses focus mainly on live class interactions and establishing strong technique.  Courses in FEB-APRIL will focus on choreography and further expanding vocabulary.

Class Description:

Welcome to the inspiring world of Odissi classical Indian dance.  This introductory course breaks down foundational techniques including basic bhangi (postures), mudra and pada (foot positions).  Odissi dance is embedded in the rich cultural climate of the East Indian state of Orissa and woven into a dance and regional history that stretched back millennia.  We will explore aspects of history and culture through lectures, the dance and the repertoire itself.

All levels of experience are welcome, however please note that there is a strong footwork component to this dance and some level of fitness is required.

CONTINUING YOUR ODISSI STUDIES

These courses are designed to support your continued study in Odissi.  Classical Indian dance arises in the context of long term training and lifestyle practices.  The techniques take time and repetition to unfold and reveal their  magic.  Progression through each level in Odissi takes several months to 1 year of regular practice and depends upon the individual.  Please speak to your teacher to progress to the next level or inquire which level is appropriate for you.

JAN courses focus mainly on live class interactions and establishing strong technique.  Courses in FEB-APRIL will focus on choreography and a further expanding dance vocabulary.

*Students enrolled in this course will receive a discounted to continue their studies in FEB-APRIL.
